Born into a family where knowledge, science, and the transmission of learning are deeply valued, Jean-Baptiste Gérard developed an early passion for technological progress and creativity. Inspired by his great-grandfather, a chief engineer who played a key role in designing the Paris Metro at the end of the 19th century, and by his encounter with astronaut Jean-François Clervoy, he immersed himself in the world of new technologies from an early age, creating his first website at the age of 12. He was also inspired by his grandmother, a philosophy professor and agrégée of the University of Paris-Sorbonne in the mid-20th century, which instilled in him a deep commitment to teaching and knowledge dissemination.
He later won multiple hackathons, including one that led to his incubation by Crédit Agricole. He has served as a mentor in international hackathons such as MIT Hacking Medicine and Techstars Startup Weekend, advising students, doctoral candidates, physicians, and professionals on the development of high-growth startups.
After completing his studies at Centrale Paris and Harvard Business School, Jean-Baptiste Gérard gained extensive international experience, working across Asia, particularly in Singapore. These experiences enriched his understanding of multicultural environments and diverse problem-solving approaches, shaping his perspective on innovation, technology, and strategy.
Upon returning to Paris, he joined IBM as a consultant, advising CAC40 and SBF120 companies on strategy, innovation, and artificial intelligence. He subsequently joined the LVMH Group, leading strategic initiatives at Louis Vuitton focused on innovation and AI. Building on this experience, Jean-Baptiste Gérard founded Laystone Group, a company dedicated to solving complex problems for corporations through advisory, education, technology services, and driving growth for global partners.
Through his personal advisory company, Gérard & Associates, he advises CEOs, senior executives, and institutions. He has also taught master’s and MBA students at leading institutions including CentraleSupélec – Paris-Saclay University and Sciences Po Paris, focusing on innovation, management, artificial intelligence, and digital strategy. He has shared his expertise globally as a speaker at major technology events, including GITEX in Dubai, and continues to advise startups in France and Asia.
He has been recognized by Forbes France as one of the 30 most promising young entrepreneurs and leaders under 30.
